Matt Kirshen

Headline Act - MATT KIRSHEN

Headlining this month is Cambridge University graduate MATT KIRSHEN. We checked, and comedy isn’t an official subject but it is where Matt developed his stand-up talent. After a triumphant win at the 2003 'Hackney Empire New Act of the Year' competition, he became an instant success on the prestigious London comedy circuit. Having taken several solo shows to the Edinburgh Festival, Matt is now an established and well respected headline act. Kirshen is no stranger to TV either, you might recognise him from E4's 'Rudetube' or a handful of different shows on Paramount Comedy including 'Last Comic Standing'. His performance is the perfect mix of innocence and post-adolescent cynicism driven by an infectious energy. He freely acknowledges his young appearance and throws in a joke or two at his own expense; however hiding behind his innocent looks lies a sharp, surreal and often gloriously sick mind.

Stan Stanley

Opening Act - STAN STANLEY

Show opener STAN STANLEY compèred our very first show back in August 2006, and things have certainly moved on since then! It's great pleasure to welcome Stan back, who has become a firm favourite among comedy fans up and down the country. He's a warm and genial comic with brilliant timing, who delivers smart, satirical observations that have more of an edge than their light-hearted handling and delivery suggest. In 2004 Stan was invited to perform in the prestigious 'Britcom Show' at the Montreal 'Just For Laughs' Comedy Festival. His appearance was so successful that the festival extended his stay. A prolific writer, Stan has written sketches for radio and television including two series of 'Man Stroke Woman' for BBC 3 (which later transferred to BBC 2). Stan is currently developing a radio sketch show with his wife.

Lou Chawner

Middle Act - LOU CHAWNER

Our middle act this month, LOU CHAWNER has been performing regularly since February 2005. He has a relaxed and confident style of storytelling, delivering original material with a unique style. After initially dabbling with stand-up during his university years, he is now gigging regularly up and down the country, reaching the semi-final stage of the 2005 'So You Think You're Funny?' competition.

"Fantastic performance, holds the audience enraptured" - Edinburgh Evening News
Jools Constant

JOOLS CONSTANT is former vicar, with a list of previous occupations as long as your arm. It seems he may have finally found the right career however, with an ego the size of Norfolk and the bravery of a small terrier! When asked about life as a stand up, Jools said 'I soon realised that being a comedian and being a builder involved exactly the same skills… Talk $&£% and look convincing!' We hope that wasn't his approach to life in the cloth too, but you'll have to ask him about that yourself! There is clearly a big future for this comic whose career is progressing very quickly. His success is thanks to his unique style, excellent stagecraft and warm rapport with the audience. Jools is fluid, energetic and engaging – we think you’ll love him!
