Friday 12th November 2010: The Rob Deering Experience

As part of his National Tour, we welcome Rob to Chesham this month as a one-off special
(our December show will be back to the usual format)

Rob Deering

Rob Deering and his guitar, the finest double act working in Britain today, combine razor-sharp stand-up with incredible flights of musicianship to create the ultimate musical comedy experience. He's not so much a one man band as a one man comedy Woodstock. Rob and his guitar hit the road this autumn for a brand new stand-up tour, taking in 31 dates accross the country.

Rob has brought seven hit solo shows to the Edinburgh Festival, having made his comedy debut at the Fringe in the prestigious 'Comedy Zone' showcase in 2001. An established stand-up, he headlined 'The Comedy Network' for five consecutive years. He has also; won the 'Amused Moose New Talent Award', been a semi-finalist in the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Awards, and been runner up in both the 'Hackney Empire New Talent Award' and the 'BBC New Comedy' Award.

Deering is a born entertainer, a fantastic comedian who has created a truly extraordinary show that will leave you smiling from ear to ear and humming tunes all the way home. A genuine joy to watch and certainly a member of the elite premiership of guitar-based acts who are actually funny.

"As sharp and versatile as a Swiss Army knife, Rob Deering is one of the best performers currently on the circuit." - The Independent

Chesham Comedy Club : Peter Buckley Hill

Rob will be supported on the night by PETER BUCKLEY HILL

The gloriously shambolic Peter Buckley-Hill has always had something of the mad scientist about him; and this year he’s delved wholeheartedly into the role, telling gags you’re guaranteed to hear nowhere else. Founder and organiser of the "Free Fringe" in Edinburgh, Peter is a wild-eyed, fringe institution - performing 16 years in a row. For his 2008 show (The World’s Most Futile Journey) he travelled on his over-60 bus pass from London to Edinburgh using only local buses!

"Lengendary"  - Time Out
"A Titan" - The Scotsman

[ED] Rob cancelled this eagerly awaited performance with very short notice to us, along with a large chunk of other events on his 31 date tour of the UK in 2010. His management company, Avalon UK, have apologised for the inconvenience and we would like to pass that message along all of you who booked tickets to see him and were disappointed. We subsequently discovered that Rob had been enticed to Buenos Aires by the BBC to film “Celebrity Total Wipeout” instead. He did return two weeks later to finish the final few dates of his tour. We were amused to discover that during the episode (which aired on BBC1, 9 April 2011) he was eliminated in the first round anyway!

Chesham Comedy Club would like to extend special thanks to the 3 comedians who filled in for Rob at the last minute (Elis James, Matt Green and Nicholas Marshall), and to Peter Buckley-Hill who was kind enought to swap roles from warm-up-act to compere with no notice.
